Important Information
The production data characterization lists the Grandad Clock model number and serial number. The Granddaddy Clock model number and series number are essential for obtaining parts or service. The product information label may be located in several locations: outside the shipping carton, back of door, back of the Grandpa Clock, top of the Grandad Clock, within the top back corner of the Granddaddy Clock, or inside the Grandfather Clock in a higher place the dorsum of the dial. For easy reference in the future, have a moment to record these numbers.
Basic OPERATION OF A Granddaddy CLOCK
At the middle of every Grandad Clock is the movement. The motion controls the hr strike, time keeping, and chinkle. The pendulum and weights are critical components to performance of the Grandfather Clock movement. The pendulum provides the ability to regulate and arrange the time keeping. As described within these instructions, adjustments to the pendulum to achieve accurate time keeping is hands accomplished. The three weights provide power to the hr strike (left weight), time (middle weight), and chinkle melody (right weight). Without these weights, the Grandfather Clock would not operate. Each weight is different and must be properly hung from the motion (left, center, right) to ensure proper performance. Weights are hung from the movement by a cable or chain. The weights must be raised at least every seven days or the Granddaddy Clock will stop. Raising cable driven weights is accomplished through use of a crank. Raising chain driven weights is accomplished by pulling down on the loose end of the chain. The strike and chime sounds are made by a series of hammers hitting various length rods. Each rod makes a different sound when hit by a hammer. Specific chinkle melodies are achieved past controlling the sequence that each hammer hits a corresponding rod.

SETTING UP YOUR Grandad CLOCK
Unboxing Your New Grandfather Clock:
a) Cut the nylon bands around the shipping carton and open up the box from both side.
b) Remove the box from on height of the clock. This will incorporate your production manual.
c) Remove the cardboard side supports within the carton.
d) Remove the Grandfather Clock pendulum packaged in a separate tall, sparse paper-thin box.
eastward) Slide the clock out of either one of the sides of the box.
f) Carefully "walk" the clock off of the paper-thin bottom support once out of the box.
Located in the bottom of the shipping carton will be a white styrofoam box. This box contains:
a) a key to fit your Granddaddy Clock door,
b) a crank which will be used to wind your Grandfather Clock and,
c) weights which operate the Grandpa Clock motion.
Also, inside the aircraft carton will be the Gramps Clock pendulum packaged in a separate cardboard box.
Move the Granddad Clock close to its final location.
WARNING: ENSURE Grandfather Clock IS POSITIONED SQUARE AND FIRM ON THE Flooring And then THAT It WILL NOT Autumn OVER. Suit LEVELERS FOR MAXIMUM STABILITY AND PROPER ALIGNMENT.
Access to the Gramps Clock movement, chimes and cables is made in three possible ways; through the front end door(s), through the top side panels (or side doors
on some Grandfather Clocks), or through the back admission console. The top side panels are held from the within by tape or a plastic prune. The plastic clip may be turned
or record may exist removed permanently. Refer to the Full general Information department in section 10 for proper instructions to remove and install height side panels.
Remove the cardboard sleeve from effectually the chime rods by beginning cutting the condom band with pair of scissors. DO NOT PULL ON THE Prophylactic BAND TO Intermission. Next, grasp the paper-thin sleeve as marked and pull straight down and off the ends of the chime rods. (See figure i). Remove the foam pads from between the chime hammers and chinkle rods by first cutting the rubber ring with scissors. DO NOT PULL ON THE RUBBER Ring TO Suspension. Intendance should be taken to avoid angle the chime hammers. The chime hammers volition be costless to move assuasive easy removal of the foam pads. Remove the jump clip from the back side of the movement by start pulling one terminate free. (Come across figure ane).
If in that location is a long cardboard sleeve and no rubber bands, just pull down slowly on the cardboard sleeve from the front of the clock and the packing will release on it's own. And so pull out the cream behind the chime hammers and you take completed this step.
Exercise Non REMOVE THE STYROFOAM BLOCKS from higher up the cable pulleys. This is one of the most critical points in the entire set up-up performance. Doing so at this time could cause the cables to overlap and demark the motion. Y'all can remove the styrofoam blocks AFTER your Grandfather Clock is totally prepare and has been operating for about twelve (12) hours or when they are completely costless to remove.

ii. LEVELING YOUR Gramps CLOCK
Position the Granddaddy Clock into its last location. Once in place, your Granddaddy Clock cabinet
must be leveled, as the Grandfather Clock may non operate if it is not level. In that location are four levelers nether the chiffonier on each corner that tin be screwed in (upwards) or
out (down) to brand adjustments. Place a level alongside the Grandfather Clock chiffonier from front end to back and side to side, adjusting the levelers until level. It may be necessary to periodically check your chiffonier after initial set-upwards, (especially if the Grandfather Clock is on carpet), as information technology might settle afterwards original leveling. (see figure 2). Ensure Grandfather Clock is positioned square and firm on the flooring then that
information technology volition non fall over.

3. HANGING THE PENDULUM
Note: To perform the post-obit steps Howard Miller suggests wearing cotton gloves or using a soft textile when handling parts.
Some pendulums accept a colored protective plastic motion-picture show roofing the pendulum disk. Carefully remove this film before hanging the pendulum. To hang the pendulum, locate the pendulum guide through the front end door, or
any of the side or back admission console locations. While holding the pendulum guide with ane paw, skid the pendulum in through the front door with your other paw. Place the pendulum hook over the pin or through the slot on the pendulum guide, and lower the pendulum until it is hanging securely on the pendulum guide. (See figure 3).
______________________________________________________________
4. HANGING WEIGHTS Practise NOT REMOVE THE STYROFOAM BLOCKS until later on your Grandfather Clock has been operating for at least twenty-4 (24) hours. Most Granddad Clocks use iii weights. The bottom of each weight is labeled Left, Eye or Right facing the Granddaddy Clock. The total weight of each weight is slightly different and each WEIGHT MUST BE INSTALLED IN ITS CORRECT LOCATION FOR THE Grandad Clock TO OPERATE PROPERLY. Cheque the weights to ensure that they are tightly assembled. Cheque to make sure that the cablevision is in the cable caster. Hang the weights on the pulleys. (Meet effigy four). |

v. SETTING YOUR MOON Dial If your Grandfather Clock has a moving moon dial feature, follow these instructions. To set moon dial, apply slight pressure with your fingers to the front of the moon dial. Rotate the moon dial Clockwise until the moon is directly below #fifteen. (See figure 5). If the moon dial volition not rotate, wait 6 hours and attempt again. Never force the moon dial equally it should movement easily. Using an almanac or calendar, determine the date of the terminal full moon. Count the number of days by the last full moon. Turn the moon dial Clockwise one click for every solar day past the full moon. The moon dial is at present set and will signal the proper moon phases as long as the Grandfather Clock operates continuously. If the Grandfather Clock stops for more than than 24 hours, the moon dial will as well stop, and must be reset when the Grandfather Clock is started once again. |

half-dozen. SETTING Fourth dimension (moving the hands) To prepare the fourth dimension, move ONLY THE MINUTE HAND counter Clockwise (backwards) until hour and infinitesimal hand are at the correct time. (See figure six). DO NOT MOVE THE HOUR Paw WHEN SETTING THE TIME. The hr hand volition motility automatically when the minute hand is moved. By moving the minute hand counter Clockwise it is not necessary to wait for the Grandfather Clock to chime as the minute paw passes each quarter 60 minutes. (Meet figure half dozen). The movement has a self correcting feature which synchronizes the chimes with the time. If after setting the Grandad Clock on fourth dimension, it does not chinkle properly, let it to operate 2 hours to correct itself. Circumspection ON MOVEMENTS WITH Automatic CHIME SEQUENCING: The chinkle selection lever should not exist in the "Automobile" position when moving the hands. Moving the hands in either the Clockwise or counter Clockwise direction while the automatic chime sequencing is in functioning could damage the chime mechanism. |
______________________________________________________________
7. STARTING THE Gramps CLOCK Reach through the front end door of the Grandfather Clock and place your mitt on the side of the pendulum disk. Movement the pendulum to the far left of centre and release. Allow the Grandfather Clock operate a few minutes until the pendulum settles into an even swinging motion. (Encounter effigy 7). If your Grandfather Clock gains or looses time after twenty-four (24) hours, run across General Information Section to regulate the timekeeping of your Grandfather Clock. After the Grandfather Clock has run for at least twenty-iv (24) hours, remove the styrofoam blocks by lifting the blocks straight up until they clear the cable pulley. Then gently push button them back, through the cables. |

10. HOW TO REMOVE/INSTALL THE TOP SIDE PANELS FROM THE Grandpa CLOCK
Your Granddaddy Clock may accept woods or glass elevation side panels. When removed, you take access to the Grandfather Clock movement and chime area. The panels may be held in place during shipment by tape or a plastic prune. In gild to remove the panel, accomplish in through the front door and turn the plastic prune or remove the tape. Then follow these steps: 1. Grasp the wood slats or knob with the tips of your fingers. Exist careful not to button on the grill fabric or drinking glass as yous might separate information technology from the wood top side panel. ii. Elevator the top side console up. It rests in a groove on the bottom border. 3. Push the bottom edge of the top side panel toward the heart of the case while at the same time, pull the pinnacle border down and out of the groove in the top of the opening. 4. Tilt the meridian edge of the elevation side panel toward the case center. v. Remove the top side panel from frame opening, lesser end showtime. When installing wooden or glass top side panels reverse steps 1 thru 5.

11. RAISING WEIGHTS The weights must be raised every seven (7) days or the Grandfather Clock will stop. Cables with pulleys: Weights that are suspended by cables with pulleys should exist raised by using the crank provided. Exercise Not lift the weights past manus while cranking. Insert the crank into the crank holes located in the dial face (See figure 15), and turn the crank counter Clockwise. This will raise the weights. You cannot overwind the Granddad Clock and the weights need to be near the top to run the Gramps Clock for vii days. Exist sure to remove the crank before shutting the door. |
______________________________________________________________
12. REGULATING TIMEKEEPING Changing the speed of time keeping is accomplished by moving the pendulum deejay up or downwards. The pendulum disk is moved upwards or downwardly by turning the adjustment nut. To slow the Grandad Clock down, motility the pendulum disk down past turning the aligning nut to the left. To speed the Grandad Clock upwardly, motion the pendulum deejay up past turning the adjustment nut to the correct. (Encounter figure 17). Day One You may read more than near how to keep your Pendulum Clock accurate here |

Many Granddaddy Clocks volition offering a night fourth dimension shutoff option. At that place are 3 options on this lever.
1) "Night On" - This will go on the chime striking 24 hours
ii) "Night Off" - This position volition plough off the chiming betwixt ten:15PM and seven:00AM
3) "Strike" - This position will allow the movement to strike the hour without the Westminster melody if the other Westminster melody lever is turned to Silent.
______________________________________________________________
14. CHIME Choice Selecting the chime melody is accomplished by a selection lever on the Gramps Clock dial. Some models play merely the Westminster chime, while others requite you a option of 3 melodies. Selection of the chinkle sequencing feature or i of the three chime melodies is washed with the selector lever. If the dial states "Chime-Silent," your Gramps Clock has only the Westminster chime. If your Grandfather Clock has a triple chime motility, the chinkle lever identifies the tune choices. All floor Gramps Clock movements have the Large Ben hr gong which will count the hour, on the 60 minutes. DO Not attempt to move the chime selection lever while the Gramps Clock is chiming. Doing so could damage the chinkle mechanism. Encounter effigy 18 for when it is safe to move the chime choice lever without damaging the movement. MOVE CHIME Choice LEVER ONLY WHEN MINUTE HAND IS IN SAFE TIME AREA |

Trouble SHOOTING
15. DIFFICULTY TURNING THE MOON Dial As you face the Grandfather Clock, remove the top side console, open the side door, or remove the back admission panel. Await at the back side of the dial and locate the click spring. Put your finger at the tip of the click spring. Pull the click spring approximately 1/2" back away from the saw tooth moon punch and then release. (Run across effigy 19). The click spring and dial should snap into proper alignment. If the click spring is in its proper location and you withal feel resistance when trying to accelerate the moon dial Do Non Forcefulness Information technology. If the moon dial still cannot be easily advanced, this indicates that the gears that automatically accelerate the moon dial are engaged. To correct this rotate the minute hand backwards three hours every bit describe in Footstep 5 of the setup operation. You may read more about how to set your Moon Dial on your grandfather clock here |

xvi. GRANDFATHER CLOCK DOES NOT CHIME AT PROPER Time
If the Grandfather Clock chimes more one infinitesimal before or later the proper time, the
infinitesimal mitt should be removed and adjusted.
CAUTION: When performing this operation be careful non to scratch the mitt nut, hand or dial.
1. When the Gramps Clock starts to chime, terminate the pendulum and record the time.
ii. Using pliers, carefully remove the small nut that holds the minute hand in place by turning the nut counter Clockwise while at the same time hold the minute hand with your fingers near the small nut.
iii. Remove the hand from the hand shaft past grasping it with your fingers at the bespeak where information technology attaches to the shaft. Pull the paw straight off. This mitt is non screwed on and should come off easily. The minute hand has a small raised area on the back side directly around the shaft pigsty, this is the hand bushing. Using
pliers, grip the bushing firmly past its sides so that it cannot slip in the pliers. With your other hand, turn the Grandfather Clock manus forward or backward the altitude necessary to chime at the right fourth dimension. (See figure twenty).
4. Re-attach the mitt to the shaft and plow the paw nut finger tight. Make sure the hand points to the right location that yous recorded in Footstep 1 plus any corrections you made in footstep three. If the hand does non point to the correct marking, repeat steps 2 and three.
five. Snug up the hand nut with the pliers. Do not over tighten.
6. Beginning pendulum.
vii. Re-set up the fourth dimension by moving ONLY THE MINUTE Manus counter Clockwise (backwards) as described in Step five of the gear up-upwardly performance.
Instance: Gramps Clock chimes at 1:10 just should chime at 1:15 .
Step one: When Gramps Clock chimes at 1:x cease the pendulum and record the time of 1:ten.
Step 2: Carefully remove the small nut.
Footstep 3: Remove the minute hand. Grip the bushing by its sides and turn the hand forward v minutes.
Pace iv: Reattach the hand and then it points to i:15. Attach the hand nut finger tight.
Step:5 Snug upward the hand nut.
Step six: Start pendulum.
Step 7: Reset Granddaddy Clock to current time.
______________________________________________________________
17. Granddad CLOCK DOES NOT STRIKE THE Right HOUR
If later on several hours of operation your Grandfather Clock does not strike the correct hour, grasp the Hr HAND But and motility it forward or backward to line upwards with the correct hour on the dial indicated past the number of times the hour strikes. Rotating this hand independently will not damage the Grandfather Clock. If the infinitesimal hand needs to be reset (to correct time), move the minute manus counter Clockwise (backwards) every bit described in Step five: Setting Time.
______________________________________________________________
1. Make sure that the selection lever is not in the "silent" position or halfway between ii chinkle melody positions?
2. Make certain that all the packing textile is removed from the motility expanse.
iii. Make sure that the weights are hanging in the correct location Bank check the label on the lesser of each weight to ensure proper location.
4. For models with nighttime silencing, make sure that the Grandfather Clock is non in the dark silence mode. (Reference: Run into AUTOMATIC Night SHUT OFF OPTION in Full general Information Department).
five. Check hammer aligning and right chime tone as necessary.
half-dozen. Move the chime choice lever to a different melody or to "silent".
7. It is possible that the styrofoam blocks located above the cable pulleys are binding the cable. Carefully remove the styrofoam blocks past lifting the blocks straight up until they articulate the cablevision caster. Then gently push them back through the cables. Do not use tools to remove the blocks. Practise non let the cablevision to overlap on the drum.
